The Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration (GVTC) is a framework of programs, plans and activities designed to conserve the cross-border network of protected areas in the Greater Virunga Landscape (GVL).
To measure its success in the conservation of the GVL, an Annual Conservation Status Report was prepared to provide up-to-date information on key indicators of conservation.
The following maps were created:
Geographical location of the Greater Virunga Landscape
Human population density
Oil and gas concessions
Distribution of key species (Mountain gorillas and elephants)
World designations of protected areas
Land cover 2010 (based on WCS data)
Data analysis for infographics on Mountain gorilla counts, Elephant counts and illegal wildlife trade (ivory and Pangolin) was also part of the project.
